Liberty Tree Tavern – Dare I say the BEST Magic Kingdom Restaurant?

Liberty Tree Tavern Review

When one thinks of dining in Magic Kingdom, the first restaurants that come to mind are Be Our Guest and Cinderella’s Royal Table.  These are the sought-after reservations, I know.  I hear it from all of my clients.  But let me introduce to you one of our family favorites: Liberty Tree Tavern.  This often-overlooked restaurant isn’t generally on the top of the list for must eats at Walt Disney World.  Let me tell you why it should be!  Located in Magic Kingdom’s Liberty Square, Liberty Tree Tavern is modeled after an 18th century colonial style inn.

There is a huge stone fireplace and “candle-lit” chandeliers in the main lobby.  You will be escorted to one of six dining rooms that are all modeled after an important figure in Colonial American history.  Your server will point out the intricate details that nod to each historical figure.

You can get a little bit of a history lesson on your trip to take back to school for the kids.  Featured rooms are Benjamin Franklin, Betsy Ross, George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, John Paul Jones and Paul Revere.  My favorite detail is the flag found in the Betsy Ross room.

Liberty Tree Tavern is a table service restaurant that offers traditional New England inspired fare.  Many people describe the meal as a Thanksgiving feast all year round.  Available for lunch and dinner, the meal is an All-You-Care-to-Enjoy feast that is served family-style.  I am a big fan of family style service as it allows families with multiple children to stay seated and just relax instead of having to constantly be up and down for a buffet.

Offerings on the Bill of Fare include a salad, main entrée and dessert.  The Declaration Salad consists of mixed greens, apples, cranberries and cheese all tossed with a House-made dressing.  The main entrée is the Patriot’s Platter which includes roasted turkey, pot roast and oven roasted pork.  Sides will be mashed potatoes, seasonal vegetables, herbed stuffing and a house-made macaroni and cheese.

You can smother this all in a house-made gravy or a cranberry relish.  Your kids are going to eat this.  You’re going to ask for more helpings of everything.

However

The single most important tip I can give you for Liberty Tree Tavern is Do. Not. Overeat.  You must save room for the single best dessert on all of Walt Disney World property.  I said it.  The BEST ONE.  The Oooey Gooey Toffee Cake.  I’m not a cake eater.  I will tell you; this isn’t a traditional cake.  It is more like a crunchy on the outside, perfectly soft on the inside toffee flavored cookie.

This is served warm and piled on top of all that deliousness is a heaping mound of vanilla ice cream topped with a generous drizzle of chocolate sauce and crumbled toffee and chocolate bits.  Because this deserves two photos; enjoy.

This is Disney of course and Disney takes allergies and dietary concerns seriously.  Liberty Tree Tavern does an excellent job of managing allergies.  Just tell your server that you have a dietary allergy and they will bring you the Allergy-Friendly Bill of Fare.

They will likely also have one of the chefs come to your table to discuss your specific needs.  The menu also has a plant-based Tavern Keeper’s Feast which offers Impossible Meatloaf and its own special dessert; the Johnny Appleseed’s Warm Apple Cake.

The drinks are also on theme with Colonial America.  You can find specialty cocktails such as the “Gold Rush” that includes Elijah Craig Kentucky straight bourbon and the “Innkeeper’s Shandy”.  Beer and wine selections include, of course, Samuel Adams lagers and IPAs and The Federalist wines.  The “Tavern Punch” (lemon dole whip and sprite) and assorted fountain beverages, coffee, juice, milk and tea are also available.

Fun Facts & Tips

  • This is an opening day restaurant.  In my mind, that alone tells me it’s good if it’s still around!
  • Disney likes theming.  The is a Liberty Square restaurant.  There was no indoor plumbing to be found in the 1700-1800s.  Are there bathrooms in this restaurant?  Yes.  But technically the bathrooms are located in an area of the restaurant that is (technically) placed in Adventureland.
  • The restaurant shares a kitchen and a menu with The Diamond Horseshoe.  You may actually get seated on the Diamond Horseshoe side of this building.  Be sure to tell your host when you check-in that you want to be seated in one of the Liberty Tree Tavern dining rooms.
  • Don’t overeat if you can avoid it.  Scratch that.  You won’t be able to avoid it.  Just plan to ride Tron BEFORE you eat here or several hours later.

Be sure to check Liberty Tree Tavern out on your next trip to Magic Kingdom.  This is an easier-to-come-by reservation.  It is my go-to for last minute reservations and I always get thanked from my clients after they have dined here.  At these prices, this is one of the best bang for your buck table service restaurants you’ll find.  Great food, great drinks, great air conditioning and last, but definitely not least, GREAT service keep this restaurant as one of our must do’s each trip.
